Willow Emerald Damselfly (Chalcolestes viridis)
Currently, two of the four Emerald Damselfly species are found in Somerset.
This is a newcomer that I've just found out about (as of 2024).
A summer species and generally around July / August / September
Both males and females are mainly metallic green and both can be told apart from the common Emerald by their wing spot, which is a pale colour with a dark outline.  The common Emerald has a completely dark wing spot.
Emeralds tend to spread their wings when resting, unlike the rest of damselflies in Somerset, which will close their wings when resting.
More to come on this once I've photographed them.

Want to See
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a specific location for this species as yet.
I'll be doing a bit of investigation into these in 2025.
They are currently being found in North Somerset (August / September).

Especially Good
