Green-eyed Hawker / Norfolk Hawker (Aeshna isoceles)
A newish arrival to Somerset, first seen in 2022 and again in 2023
There is a largish community of these in Weymouth, Dorset and my thinking is that these are arriving from there.
My gut feeling is that they will love the Somerset Levels and in the next few years become more common here.
A brown hawker with green eyes and yellow stripes on the thorax.
Males have an obvious waist at the top of the abdomen.
Females don't have this waist.
It can be confused with the Brown Hawker, the key difference is to look for the green eyes and clear wings.

Want to See
I'm still awaiting to see these myself in Somerset.
I know there have been limited sightings at RSPB Ham Wall / RSPB Greylakes / River Parrett at Langport.
Currently, if you wish to see these, a day trip to Weymouth would be best where there is a thriving community.

Especially Good
RSPB Radipole, Weymouth, Dorest (Late June / Early July)
Bennetts Water Garden, Weymouth, Dorset (Late June / Early July)
