Golden-ringed Dragonfly (Cordulegaster boltonii)
One of the most striking dragonflies we have in the UK and Somerset.
A black dragonfly with yellow rings and green eyes.
Males have a waist at the front of the abdomen and a slightly clubbed tail at the end.
Females have no waist and have a more uniform abdomen.
I've only photographed the male to date.

Want to SeeĀ
Likes streams and rivers in upland areas.
For Somerset, the Quantocks and Exmoor are the best places, although I haven't explored Exmoor well enough to recommend any specific location here.

Especially Good
Quantocks (July) - Pick a walk up any combe and you are more than likely to see the odd one by the stream.
